Jogging...
Jogging can be a great way to add a little more exercise to your routine.
Unfortunately, it's sometimes hard to get motivated to start.
With HabitShaper, you can simply set your goal (e.g. "30 minutes every weekday" or "an hour every Mon/Wed/Fri"), and when you want to be at that level ("in two months").
With one-click, you have a running plan for the next two months. And it's a plan that starts almost absurdly easy.
But that's the point! For the first week or so, your targets are in the 1-8 minutes range. This is simply the "get used to actually doing it" phase.
Of course, you can jog as much as you like in the first weeks. But having a low starting target helps you ease it into your routine.

Quit Smoking...
HabitShaper was initially designed to help someone quit smoking.
I was using the HabitShaper formulas I developed for my own projects, when my younger brother told me he wanted to quit.
He had been a smoker for several years, and had tried to quit cold-turkey a number of times. I realized that my 'gradual habit-shaping' formulas would be worth a try!
I plugged in the numbers, gave him the targets, and he went about quitting. Slowly. For Good.
It's been 8 years, and he hasn't gone back.
You can use HabitShaper to quit smoking on your own terms. The plan will be adapted to you: how much you currently smoke, how slowly or quickly you want to cut back.
And like all of HabitShaper's plans, the targets adapt to you over time. So if you're doing better than expected, you'll quit sooner. And if you're behind, it'll just take a little longer, but you will get there!

Weight-loss...
There is a lot of information on weight-loss. A lot of it is contradictory, but there is one thing that everyone agrees on: you have to keep track of your weight in order to do anything about it.
Whether you want to count all your calories, or simply "exercise more, and eat right", you'll need to keep track of your weight, and have some idea of how far along you are towards reaching your goal.
By tracking your weight with HabitShaper, you have a clear path from "weight now" to "weight goal". This path includes an easy starting phase. Your goal here isn't so much to lose weight, as it is to get used to tracking your weight, and to get used to the many (or few) changes you'll be making to start you on your way.
As with all HabitShaper plans, these targets are tailored to you, and will adjust to you over time. And you can even use the same system for complementary goals like exercising.
And these targets are always kept within reach. Remember, your goal is never to "lose 40 lbs". Your goal is to "lose half a pound this week".

Write a Novel...
Writing a novel is something many aspire to do.
And the reason it's so difficult is contained in a single word: "persistence".
However, one great advantage to this monumental task is that it's easy to track progress. By simply keeping track of word-counts or number of pages, you're suddenly not "in it for the long haul" or "sitting down to write a novel", you are just sitting down to add a few more words.
With HabitShaper, you can quickly make a word-count plan for your creative masterpiece. Simply plug in an estimated length (e.g. "50,000 words" or "200 pages"), and a time frame ("in three months"). One-click, and you have a plan for the next three months.
Then you can sit down and forget about the overwhelming task of "writing a novel" and focus on the simply task of writing a set number of words.
Or, as Nancy Kress put it (in her excellent book "Beginnings, Middles & Ends"), The basic principle is to break everything down into smaller pieces: chapters, time, page count. Specifically:
- Don't tell yourself, Now I'm sitting down to write a novel. Tell yourself, Now I'm sitting down to start the scene where Martha sneaks onto a Greyhound for Memphis....
- Track something. Keep records of the number of pages you write every week, or the percentage of chapters completed...
- Create deadlines for yourself.
All of this advice is directly built into HabitShaper, so you can be on your way to having a novel under your belt in no time!
